This guide gets you started with a typical creation for a partition profile using HMC v10.<\/p>\n

The Create Logical Partition wizard on the\u00a0Hardware Management Console<\/span>\u00a0(HMC<\/span>) guides you through the procedure of creating logical partitions and partition profiles on your server.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

To create a new partition profile using the\u00a0HMC<\/span>, complete the following steps:<\/p>\n

Procedure<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

  1. In the navigation pane on the left, click Systems<\/span><\/strong>. In the work pane, click the server name that has the logical partition. Click Partitions<\/span><\/strong>. The Partitions page is displayed.
    \n<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. In the work pane, select System actions<\/strong>\u00a0–> Create VIOS<\/b><\/abbr><\/span>
    \n
    \n<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. In the Add VIOS Wizard<\/strong>, follow instruction to input required information to create VIOS partition.
    \n– The General<\/em> tab: Input partition name and ID (system auto generate ID)
    \n– The Processor<\/em> tab: specify processor value
    \n– The Memory<\/em>: specify memory value
    \n– The Physical I\/O<\/em>: select and add I\/O to VIOS
    \n– The Configuration Summary<\/em> tab: review all settings
    \n<\/li>\n
  4. Then click to select VIOS partition just created –> Profiles<\/strong> –> Manage profiles<\/strong>. In the Manage Profiles<\/span>\u00a0wizard<\/strong>, click\u00a0Actions<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0<\/abbr>New<\/span><\/strong><\/span>. The\u00a0Create Lpar<\/span> wizard is displayed.

  5. In the\u00a0Partition Profile<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0page, specify a name for the logical partition profile in the\u00a0Profile name<\/span>\u00a0field.

    \n<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Select the\u00a0Use all the resources in the system<\/span><\/em>\u00a0check box if you want the logical partition to have all the resources that are available in the system.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Click\u00a0Next<\/span><\/strong>. Alternatively, click\u00a0Cancel<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0to reject the changes and to close the window.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    3. In the\u00a0Processors<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0page, select\u00a0Shared<\/span><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0to assign partial processor units from the shared processor pool or select\u00a0Dedicated<\/span><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0to assign the entire processor that can only be used by the logical partition, and click\u00a0Next<\/span><\/strong>.

    4. In the\u00a0Processing Settings<\/span><\/strong> page, specify values for the processor units
      \n– Minimum processing<\/em><\/span>
      \n– Desired processing<\/em><\/span>
      \n– Maximum processing<\/em> <\/span>.

      \nIf the Shared<\/strong> mode selected, select a shared processor pool from the Shared processor pool<\/span>\u00a0list.
      \n<\/span><\/p>\n
        \n
      1. In the\u00a0Virtual Processors<\/span>\u00a0section, specify values for the virtual processor in the\u00a0Minimum virtual processors<\/span>,\u00a0Desired virtual processors<\/span>, and\u00a0Maximum virtual processors<\/span>\u00a0fields.<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. If you want to specify uncapped weight value for the virtual processors, select the\u00a0Uncapped Weight<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0check box and specify a value in the\u00a0Uncapped Weight<\/span><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0field, and click\u00a0Next<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
      3. In the\u00a0Memory Settings<\/span><\/strong> page, specify below values for the logical partition memory and click\u00a0Next<\/span><\/strong>.
        \n– Minimum Memor<\/em>y<\/span>,
        \n– Desired Memory<\/span><\/em>,
        \n– Maximum Memory<\/span><\/em> fields
        \n
        \n<\/span><\/li>\n
      4. In the\u00a0I\/O<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0page, select the adapters that you want to be included in the partition profile from the adapter list and click\u00a0Add as required<\/span><\/strong>, or\u00a0Add as desired<\/span><\/strong>. Click\u00a0Remove<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0to remove the selected adapter from the partition profile, and click\u00a0Next<\/span><\/strong>.

      5. If you create partition under Virtual I\/O (VIOS) so you need to create virtual adapters<\/strong><\/em><\/span>. In the Virtual Adapters<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0page, select the virtual adapter from the available adapter list and click\u00a0Actions<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0<\/abbr>Properties<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to view the properties of the virtual adapter.

        1. In the\u00a0Maximum virtual adapters<\/span><\/em>\u00a0field, specify the number of maximum virtual adapters for the logical partition.<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. To create a virtual adapter, click\u00a0Actions<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0<\/abbr>Create Virtual Adapter<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and select\u00a0Ethernet Adapter<\/span><\/em>,\u00a0Fibre Channel Adapter<\/span><\/em>,\u00a0SCSI Adapter<\/span><\/em>, or\u00a0Serial Adapter<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. In the\u00a0Virtual Adapters<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0page, click\u00a0Next<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
        4. In the\u00a0Optional Settings<\/span><\/strong> page, review default or select some below options and boot modes then click Next<\/span><\/strong>
          \n– The Enable connection monitoring<\/span><\/em> check box to enable connection monitoring.
          \n– The Automatically start when the managed system<\/em> is powered on<\/span> check box to start the partition profile automatically when the managed system is powered on.
          \n– The Enable redundant error path reporting<\/span><\/em> check box to receive reports about any redundant errors.

        5. The\u00a0Profile Summary<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0page displays the summary information about the logical partition and the partition profile. Click\u00a0Details<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0to view details about the physical I\/O devices. Click\u00a0Finish<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0to create the logical partition and the partition profile.
